Beach Boys in Feud Over Early Tunes

 The Associated Press

LOS ANGELES (AP) - The Beach Boys and their former record company are suing each other, both claiming they own ``Surfin' Safari'' and some of the band's other early recordings.
The bad vibrations involve six records made in 1962 at the home of the late Dorinda and Hite Morgan, founders of Deck Records.
Their son, Bruce Morgan, filed a $5 million suit in federal court Wednesday claiming the Beach Boys broke a 1962 agreement involving the records, which include ``Surfin' Safari.''
Lawyers for surviving band members Brian Wilson, Mike Love and Al Jardine have filed suit against Deck Records and Surf's Up! Records.
The band claims they own the material and Morgan had no right to license Surf's Up! to sell their songs over the Internet.
The Beach Boys want royalties on past record sales, estimated at $80 million.

BRIAN WILSON and BAND,Carl's Sons, Jonah and Justin; Chicago's Robert Lamm; Christopher Cross; and Other Surprise Celebrity Friends of The Beach Boys to Appear

Three years after The Beach Boys' Carl Wilson passed away from cancer, the Carl Wilson Foundation (CWF) will host its annual Walk Against Cancer to raise funds and awareness for cancer research.

The third-annual event will be held at Paradise Cove and Calamigos Ranch in Malibu, Calif., on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000, and Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000, respectively.

A star-studded lineup of musicians will be accompanied by the first appearance of Carl's wife (and Dean Martin's daughter), Gina Wilson. This is her first public appearance since Carl's death on Feb. 6, 1998. Tickets are $37 and include an all-you-can-eat BBQ lunch, access to a Beach Boys memorabilia auction and a free concert. For tickets call 310/888-3545. For more information visit the Web site http://www.carlwilsonfoundation.org.

A true gathering of family and long-time personal friends of The Beach Boys, festivities will begin on Saturday, Oct. 7, from noon to dusk at Paradise Cove, the same place where The Beach Boys shot the cover of their first album, "Surfin' Safari," in 1961.

An old-fashioned Malibu beach party will be held and feature a mini-concert with Jeff Foskett (former Beach Boys band member), Billy Hinsche (former Beach Boys band member and Carl's cousin) and John Zambetti (The Malibooz).

On Sunday, Oct. 8, the day will begin with a hike up a Malibu mountainside, a BBQ lunch and an all-star jam featuring The Honeys (Marilyn Wilson, Diane Revell and Ginger Blake -- wife, sister in-law and cousin, respectively, of Brian Wilson); Ricci Martin (Dean Martin's son and Gina's brother); In Bloom (Justyn Wilson, Carl B. Wilson and Mario Tucker -- Carl's son and Dennis' son); Carnie and Wendy Wilson (Brian Wilson's daughters); Billy Hinsche; Gerry Beckley of America (former Beach Boys band member); Robert Lamm of Chicago; Wayne Tweed (studio musician for The Beach Boys and Smokey Robinson); Jeff Foskett; Bobby Figueroa (former Beach Boys band member); Blondie Chaplin (Rolling Stones guitarist) and Ricky Fataar (Bonnie Raitt's drummer) (Carl's friends from South Africa and former Beach Boys); and Michael Angeloff, a new artist, whose CD features Carl's last performance.

A live auction will feature items including: Dean Martin's golf clubs; Brian Wilson touring memorabilia; Ringo Starr's drumsticks; a Brian Setzer autographed CD; Nancy Sinatra's autographed CDs and video; Roger McGuinn, Brian Wilson, Joe Walsh, Gerry Beckley, Robert Lamm and Beach Boys posters. Remaining auction items will be placed on eBay to benefit the foundation.

CWF's charitable mission is support for cancer research and assistance to cancer victims (especially musicians disabled and impoverished by the disease), with the goal of improving their quality of life. The Carl Wilson Foundation (CWF) has been established by Jonah and Justyn Wilson (Carl Wilson's sons) to oversee the distribution of these funds, and to help insure that the battle against this terrible disease will continue.
